Information services

This section covers those functions within UHI that provide access to information the student body and both academic and administrative staff.

 

These include libraries, computing services, archive services, and information support services. Such functions may be managed separately from each other, or in various combinations. These services routinely explain their facilities (and the conditions of their use) to students, staff and the general public and it is information of this nature that is included within this section.

In some instances information will be exempt from disclosure where it contains personal information, or information which, if released, may substantially prejudice the commercial interests of any person, endanger the physical or mental health or the safety of an individual, substantially prejudice the effective conduct of public affairs, or constitute an actionable breach of confidence.

Library facilities

The UHI library facilities are spread out across the academic partner network. This information can be accessed from the libraries services pages.

Computing facilities
UHI provides computing facilities to the executive office. For further information please contact Alun Hughes.

Other information facilities
For other information services please refer to the academic partner specific publication scheme.

Major strategy documents
At present there is no separate strategy document covering information services. For information regarding the services provided and service level agreements please contact Alun Hughes.

Collections
Each of the academic partners have their own collections which reflect the content of their curriculum. The material may be available in different formats depending on the partner and they may have access to electronic journals. Further information is available from the libraries services pages and the individual academic partner websites.

Special collections
The university owns two special collections of books that originated from the Fort Augustus Benedictine Monastery Library. One of the collections 'The Celtica Collection' is held at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI and 'The Theological Collection' is held at Highland Theological College UHI. All further information regarding the collections can be found through the holding academic partner.

Open archives
At present the open archive system is being reviewed in line with new records management policies.

Archive facilities
UHI has no archive facilities. Please refer to the academic partner specific publication scheme for information on their archive facilities.
