Director of European and International Development
Linda Stewart's role involves working with regional, national, European and international institutions to build up the university's reputation. She also works with other higher education institutions across Europe and beyond, and secures funding from European Union and international sources.
The university's European connections have been very important to the developing university, giving opportunities to learn from institutions elsewhere facing similar challenges of large, dispersed and rural communities – and bringing in an investment of over £200m in our infrastructure, research capacity and curriculum development.
As well as European Union Structural Funds, Linda’s current role covers the broader spectrum of European programmes and funding, particularly INTERREG, Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+, as well as wider international opportunities.
Linda has worked with the university since 1998, having previously carried out a similar role in Inverness College UHI. Prior to that, she was a Lecturer in Modern Languages and Business Studies at Inverness and Dumfries Colleges. She is a graduate of Edinburgh University in Italian, including a year spent at Siena University.
