In-school workshops

If your school is located more than 30 minutes drive from the STEM Hub, the STEM team are happy to come into your school to deliver sessions. All of our STEM sessions are hands-on and Curriculum for Excellence linked.

Early Coders!

Get children excited about coding! Using simple coding toys this sessions provides a very basic introduction to computers and how we can give them instructions for early level children. Children will getting hands-on and solving simple problems with our robots.

Microscopy

Pupils will discover how a microscope works and then work with a selection of different microscopes to explore what a range of samples looks like. We will compare samples of living and non-living things, thinking about what the differences are and then record our findings just like real scientists!

Science Investigators

Learn how to be a scientist. Through a series of fun experiments pupils will learn about the different skills you need to be a good scientist. Pupils will need to use observation, special scientific equipment and brilliant listening and team work skills in this fun hands-on workshop.

Children in science lab

Coding with 'SPRK+'

Get hands on with our 'SPRK+' robots! Pupils will be introduced to the basic concepts of computer programming through a series of fun games. They will then apply their skills to programme our robots through a series of challenges.

DNA Discovery!

Learn about what DNA is and why scientists are so interested in it! Pupils will get hands-on conducting an experiment extracting some real DNA from fruit and then take part in some interactive activities learning about hereditary traits and what makes us all different.

Electricity!

Pupils will get hands-on building different circuits and making a battery. They will also use electricity to get creative, creating a fruit piano!

Oil Slick

Pupils will put their investigative skills to use in solving an environmental disaster! Experimenting with different materials pupils will come up with a solution for cleaning up and oil slick and learn about how human activity can affect our environment.

Renewables

In this session we will look at different forms of renewable energy. Pupils will work as a team to conduct science experiments using our wind turbine kits and will explore another type of renewable energy using interactive models.

Pupils will build models of planets and learn about the scale and distances in our solar system. They will discover how craters are formed and explore some materials from space.
