Year 1 - PgCert

Core modules are:

  • The Gaelic legacy
  • Writers and place
  • Literary iconographies

Option modules include:

  • Historical and cultural perspectives of the North Atlantic Rim
  • Contemporary Scottish poetry
  • Early Scottish literature

Year 2 - PgDip

Core modules are:

  • Modern Scottish Gothic
  • A Tour of the Highlands

Option modules include:

  • Exploring creative writing
  • The language and palaeography of older Scots
  • The North Atlantic Rim literary context

Year 3 - MLitt

To achieve the award of MLitt Highlands and Islands Literature you must complete a research dissertation

  • You will study through a combination of video conference lectures and tutorials, and online study via the UHI virtual learning environment (VLE)
  • International students can also study by online distance learning using the UHI VLE and video conference
  • This course has been approved for in-country international delivery. It may also be studied by international students based within the UK.
  • You will also attend a two-day induction in Orkney at the start of your course
