Year 1 - PgCert
Core modules are:
- Arguments and alternatives; models, interpretations
- Debates in Highlands and Islands history
Option modules include, but are not limited to
- The Clearances
- Lordship of the Isles
- The diaspora
- Education in the Gaelic language
- Gender and the family
- The impact of war in the twentieth-century
- Myth and memory
- The practice and theory of oral history
Year 2 - PgDip
Core modules are:

- Authors and archives
- Sources in Highlands and Islands history
Option modules include, but are not limited to:
- The Clearances
- Lordship of the Isles
- The diaspora
- Education in the Gaelic language
- Gender and the family
- The impact of war in the twentieth-century
- Myth and memory
- The practice and theory of oral history
Year 3 - MLitt
To achieve the award of MLitt History of the Highlands and Islands you must complete a research dissertation
Study options
- You will study by way of online distance learning via the UHI virtual learning environment (VLE), and at times via audio conference
- You will have support from expert staff at the UHI Centre for History throughout your course
- This course has been approved for in-country international delivery. It may also be studied by international students based within the UK.
How long will my course last?
- Full time: 1 year @ 40 hours per week
- Part time (structured): 2 - 3 years @ 20 hours per week
- Part time (unstructured): 6 years (maximum) @ 10 hours per module
Number of hours per week indicates the total number of hours you should dedicate to the course, which includes time spent in online discussion and your own time spent on individual study and research.

How much will my course cost?
The following fees apply to our taught postgraduate courses in the academic year 2012-13
