How to
Access online resources
Please use the electronic resources section of this website to find out about quality online resources available to you. Your local library may also have resources that might be relevant for your research.
Cite and reference
Students are expected to cite and reference any sources that they use in their work whether the work is directly quoted, paraphrased or summarised. Failure to acknowledge someone else’s intellectual property in your work is regarded as plagiarism, which is penalised by tutors, markers and examiners.
There is lots of support to help you get to grips with the UHI referencing style.
For help with the fundamentals of correct referencing have a look at:
- UHI Interactive referencing tutorial (requires flash)
- UHI quick guide to referencing - English (pdf)
- UHI quick guide to referencing - Gaelic (pdf)
Full guidance on how to cite and reference all kinds of resources from Acts of Parliament to blogs can be found in the UHI student referencing guide:
Use RefWorks
Remember! UHI provides you with a tool to manage your references which is called RefWorks. RefWorks will store your references online and you can output them into your assignments in the UHI Harvard Style.
An introduction on how to use RefWorks is available. Start at the section "Navigating around RefWorks".
- Access and use RefWorks
- Back up and restore your references using RefWorks
Your local librarian and the UHI's Electronic Resources Manager can also help you.
