Email

The university uses Office365 for staff and student email.

  • On a university or college PC you can access this through the Outlook Client.
  • On your personal equipment you can use Webmail through a web browser for access anywhere there is an internet connection.

Webmail Tips

  • We've found our webmail works best with the latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox for access (we'd not recommend using Chrome)
  • If you use Internet Explorer then use your full username for logging in (<username>@uhi.ac.uk)
  • If you are getting access issues and have Avast installed, contact the UHI Helpdesk for configuration assistance.

Email FAQs

Answers to many of the common questions asked of the helpdesk can be found on this page.

We have an FAQ search facility that you can use to find FAQs on the email service.

With thanks to Dundee University and the Microsoft teams for providing us with many of the original documents and links used here.

Office365

Office365 provides different access methods. Staff with their PCs/Laptops that only they use will get a copy of the Outlook client installed (please contact your local IT support to find out their schedule for this). Students and shared devices will only have access via the Web Access Client. Please note there will be no Outlook client installed on MyUHI. You will need to use the Web Access client to access email in MyUHI if required.

As the Outlook client effectively caches your data once it has been setup on your usual PC/Laptop/MAC device if you need to access your email from another device you will need to use the Web Access Client instead.

Below are the activities that we know staff and students carryout regularly. A wide range of instructions for other activities is available for the Windows Outlook Client, the MAC Client and the Web Access Client.

A fuller list of the differences between the Outlook and the Web Access client is available from the Microsoft site. A comparison of the feature differences between the Windows Outlook and the MAC Outlook clients is also available online.
