UHI are now using OFFICE365 for Staff and Students (www.uhi.ac.uk/en/lis/office365live)
(Note that the Google Chrome browser is not fully compatible with this service.)
- What is email and chat?
Email and chat are services supplied by UHI for UHI staff and students use to communicate easily and safely with each other. - Who uses email and chat?
All staff and students within UHI are able to use Office365 email and chat to communicate with each other. - Why should I use email and chat?
Email allows fast, inexpensive and efficient communications to take place. Messages can be sent and received regardless of geographical barriers. It allows messages to be sent and forwarded to multiple recipients without the need for retyping. Electronic documents can be distributed via the email system. Within UHI we use Office365 to provide our email service.Using Office365 provides the following benefits:
Webmail allows you to access your e-mail or calendar over the Internet from any web-enabled computer in the world.
Integrated accounts so you don't need to remember multiple passwords.
These accounts are backed up so data can be restored.
You should use Office365 email as this is the only supported formats of email within UHI. Other email providers are not guaranteed to work with our systems.
- When should I use email and chat?
Office365 email should be used for all college based email communication, as it is the only supported email format. Emails sent from other email providers ie: Hotmail, yahoo etc, cannot be guaranteed to be received, they may be blocked due to inappropriate content from sponsors etc. It should be noted, that email is not an instant communications tool. - When is email and chat available?
This service should be available for use 24 * 7, 365 days a year. However there will be times when we need to carryout essential maintenance work, this will be required to address a service fault, or to carryout service improvement work. Whilst we will endeavour to give notice of any work that will require an outage this may not always be possible.
How do I report a problem?
If you have problems with this service please contact the UHI helpdesk.

Office365
Office365 provides different access methods. Staff with their PCs/Laptops that only they use will get a copy of the Outlook client installed (please contact your local IT support to find out their schedule for this). Students and shared devices will only have access via the Web Access Client. Please note there will be no Outlook client installed on MyUHI. You will need to use the Web Access client to access email in MyUHI if required.
As the Outlook client effectively caches your data once it has been setup on your usual PC/Laptop/MAC device if you need to access your email from another device you will need to use the Web Access Client instead.
Below are the activities that we know staff and students carryout regularly. A wide range of instructions for other activities is available for the Windows Outlook Client, the MAC Client and the Web Access Client.
A fuller list of the differences between the Outlook and the Web Access client is available from the Microsoft site. A comparison of the feature differences between the Windows Outlook and the MAC Outlook clients is also available online.
If you are a UHI student and wish to transfer data between your GroupWise account and your Office365 account please follow these instructions.

Office365 live
Office365 is now live!
All staff and students will now be able to access their new Office365 account via the Web Access Client (http://outlook.com/uhi.ac.uk) using your usual UHI username and password.
There are plans for each site to roll out the Outlook 2010 client to PCs and Laptops, you will receive information from your local IT team on when this is expected to happen and any activities you will need to undertake to support this.
If you need assistance with Office365 please contact the UHI Helpdesk, by telephone (01463 279150), using the Webhelpdesk Self Service Portal (login with your usual UHI username and password), or if possible by email. Please be aware that the UHI helpdesk will be very busy during the first few days after Office365 goes live so if you are looking for instructions on how to carryout common email tasks please refer to the online instructions in the first instance.
A 15 minute introduction video to the new Office365 email system is also available from youtube.
We will regularly be updating the Office365 Go live Twitter feed with information about common problems.
