Dr. Stefan Gary

Stefan Gary graduated from Swarthmore College with degrees in engineering and art history, and then joined the Peace Corps and taught physics in Tanzania for two years. This experience is what motivated Stefan to study earth science, and the fluid dynamics of the ocean in particular.

Stefan went on to obtain a Masters of Science in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a PhD in Earth and Ocean Science at Duke University.  Stefan continued to work at Duke as a postdoc and played a role in the design of a large international ocean observing system: OSANP.  Stefan then moved to Scotland in 2013 to be one of the lead investigators for the Extended Ellett Line repeat hydrographic section.  In this role, he has lead 3 glider missions and 1 research cruise in addition to participating in several other cruises and glider missions for both EEL and OSNAP.
