Centre for Rural Creativity
Researching creative industries in remote and rural areas.
The Centre for Rural Creativity is an initiative to support research and knowledge exchange in the creative industries in remote and rural areas, established in 2015 with the support of Shetland Islands Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Creative Scotland. Based in Shetland College UHI the Centre will undertake interdisciplinary research and act as a focal point for the university’s teaching, knowledge exchange and engagement with the creative industries.
The centre encompasses work that can be studied and researched across the following range of courses:
Applied Music, Audio Engineering, Contemporary Filmmaking in the Highlands and Islands, Contemporary Textiles, Drama and Performance, Events Management, Fine Art, Fine Art Textiles, Music Business, Popular Music, Visual Communication and Design.
The Centre's Director is Professor Robin MacPherson, formerly Director of the Institute for Creative Industries at Edinburgh Napier University.
