Speak to an adviser
Telephone and email
If you are an HNC, HND, degree or postgraduate student you can submit a question to our UHI Careers Adviser, through our secure, confidential e-guidance service.
Alternatively you can e-mail us to request a call-back and she will speak to you over the telephone.
If you are a student on another kind of course then you can access Skills Development Scotland services.
What kind of help can we give?
We can offer you information on a whole range of topics. If you are unsure exactly what you want to do then we can also help you to talk through your ideas and clarify what you want to do and your next steps.
Some examples of questions that we have helped with include:
- How do I get into social work?
- Can you give me feedback on my CV?
- I’m not sure what I want to do.
- I live in the Outer Hebrides and don’t want to move. What can I do?
Meet our adviser
Rosie Alexander has worked as a careers adviser in a range of different settings including, school, college, University and adult careers services. She believes strongly in the importance of personal choice in careers and is interested in helping students to find a way to combine their interests, values and skills in a working context that suits them. In her own life she has worked in a range of jobs (including a brief spell in a sheet-metal factory!) through which she has learnt all about different working environments and the importance of being flexible, open and adaptive!
Services in your college
Depending on where you are studying you may be able to access face to face services through your local college or learning centre. Details of services available in our colleges is available here.
Other Services
As well as offering access to professional advice and guidance UHI also has a career mentoring service where you can speak more informally to a UHI graduate about how they developed their career. You may request to speak to someone from your subject area, or someone who has gone into a particular kind of work, and we will endeavour to arrange a meeting for you.
