Heather, a third year student on the BA (Hons) Gaelic Language and Culture ( Cànan agus Cultar na Gàidhlig) degree, was awarded the title in recognition of her contribution to Gaelic, and for her exceptional coursework.

As well as raising three children and producing work of a very high standard, Heather immersed herself in the life of the college and the local community.

Winner of the Comann na Gàidhlig prize for promoting the use of Gaelic, Heather was praised for encouraging fellow students to use the language, and for her friendly, considerate manner.

Her poetry also won special praise, a competition judge commenting that the style and authenticity of her work was an exceptional achievement for an adult learner.

Heather said, “I am now fulfilling an ambition to study at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI as part of our own university. It is something that always figured in my thoughts.”
