These occasions provide opportunities to welcome members of the public and the wider academic community to participate in events with UHI.   UHI has a large number of locations and the series will extend to as many of these as possible using video-conference and by taking the live events to different locations.    They are open and free to anyone.

All UHI Public Lectures are recorded and may be uploaded onto the UHI web site, YouTube and iTunesU for future public viewing.   There is nothing like attending lectures in person though, for the ability to provide feedback and input.

If you would like to book a place at any of these lectures or check the availability of videoconferencing links in your area, please contact
Paul Ellison on tel: 01463 279344 or email: paul.ellison@uhi.ac.uk

During 2008, UHI Millennium Institute presented three exceptional public lectures on themes of science and theology. All were held at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.

The first lecture took place on 2 April 2008 with Professor Richard Dawkins, Charles Simonyi Chair for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University, entitled "Science and The God Delusion".

The second took place on the 10 June 2008 with the Rev Professor Andrew McGowan, principal of Highland Theological College UHI, who presented his inaugural lecture entitled “Is there a place for theology in a modern university?”

The third lecture took place on the 27 October 2008; Dr. Lennox, author of “God’s Undertaker: has science buried God?” presented a response to Professor Richard Dawkins.

UHI summer lunchtime lectures 2007

This exceptional programme of lectures took place each lunchtime during summer 2007. This allowed for 'tasters' from the BA Honours in Scottish History led by the UHI Centre for History to be taken to the public in order to give a genuine feeling of what it was to be alive in the Highlands and Islands of long ago.

Please follow this link for more information and to view these lectures, recorded 23 - 27 July 2007
