Taught postgraduate - PgCert, PgDip, MA and MSc

Some UHI postgraduate programmes are available on-line through supported distance learning, others are taught in situ. As with undergraduate courses, students may choose to study individual modules, perhaps as part of their personal development, or progress to a postgraduate award.

On-line courses are accessible from anywhere in the network and elsewhere. For example, our MSc infection control students are based in locations as far apart as Shetland, Glasgow and Bath.

Certain courses take advantage of the unique resources of the region and require students to be located nearby. The MA archaeological practice, for example, uses the superb archaeology of Orkney, Shetland and Caithness.

Length of study:

Postgraduate certificate (PgCert) – one semester full-time (four modules)
Postgraduate diploma (PgDip) – two semesters full-time (eight modules)
Masters (MA/MSc) – three semesters full-time (eight modules plus dissertation)

Entry requirements:

Normally a good honours degree, however flexibility will be applied in the case of experienced professionals studying on vocational courses.

More information:

Many postgraduate students study part-time – often combining work with pursuing their personal and professional development. Some choose to study a single module – related to their work or to their personal interest.
