Heidi May trained in Sheffield, completing her BA Nursing (Hons) in 1987. After working for several years in Thoracic Medicine and Infectious Diseases she moved to Australia where she worked in Respiratory and HIV Medicine at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. Heidi then spent 13 years working in London at Kings College Hospital (HIV Medicine), St Mary’s Hospital Paddington (Genito-urinary Medicine) and then at the North Middlesex Hospital as the Deputy and then Acting Director of Nursing. Heidi moved to the Highlands in July 2005 to take up the post of Board Nurse Director for NHS Highland and is the professional lead for nurses, midwives and AHPs. She leads specifically on the Patient Experience, Infection Control, Maternity Services and Spiritual Care, ensuring that workforce planning, workforce development and quality of care are delivered effectively, efficiently and safely.
Heidi has recently successfully completed her Lean Leader training and now leads, along with other members of the Executive and Senior Management Team, on improvement work across the Board to reduce harm, waste and variation and supports the NMAHP body to make a highly effective contribution to the leadership and delivery of health and social care in NHS Highland.
