Court member, further education
Peter Campbell is chair of the Board of Governors of Shetland College UHI and represents the interests of further education on the university court. A retired primary school head teacher, Peter has lived in Shetland for almost forty years. He came to the islands initially as head teacher and Church of Scotland missionary on the island of Foula, considered by many to be the most isolated inhabited island in Britain.
Elected to Shetland Islands Council in May 2012, he was appointed vice-chairman of the Board of Management. In May 2014 he became chairman of the College Board, a court member of the University of the Highlands and Islands and a member of the Further Education Regional Board of the Highlands and Islands.
Peter has a keen interest in sail training. He is chairman of Sail Training Shetland, a local organisation providing young people with sail training opportunities, and secretary of SWAN, Shetland's own "tall ship" built in Lerwick in 1900.
