Roddy Burns


Court Member, Independent - appointed by Local Authorities

Roddy Burns is chief executive of Moray Council.

Born in Glasgow, he graduated in law from Aberdeen University and joined the former Moray District Council as a trainee solicitor in the early 1980s.

He held various legal and administrative posts and was depute director of law and administration at local government reorganisation in 1996.

He was appointed legal services manager with the new Moray Council and became chief legal officer in 2000.

In 2010 Roddy was appointed as a director with the council responsible for a variety of corporate services and strategic objectives.

Married with a son and daughter, Roddy was appointed Moray Council chief executive in October 2012.

Currently Roddy is honorary secretary of the Scottish branch of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.
