Gaelic Language & Culture, Gaelic & Traditional Music and Gaelic & Media Studies. Our degree courses are the only degrees in Scotland taught entirely through the medium of Gaelic.
I first came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig to study on the Gaelic Summer short courses for two weeks, after finishing high school. I really enjoyed studying the language, and as Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the only college which teaches further education through the medium of Gaelic, I don’t think there is any better place for learning it. I wanted to learn Gaelic as being a fiddler, it is very much connected to the traditional music of Scotland which I enjoy playing. Gaelic is also an important part of our culture and that’s why I wanted to learn the language. Lisa Moyes
I came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig because, living in a Gaelic speaking community, I saw it as a great opportunity for me to improve my Gaelic. I was looking for an effective way to learn the language as my children are in Gaelic medium education, and I wanted them to have the opportunity to speak the language at home. You have the opportunity to speak Gaelic everywhere here, and I found that especially useful for picking it up. Heather Clyne
I came to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig to further my Gaelic, and to gain experience of using the language and because it is different from other universities in that it offers a Gaelic environment where people can be immersed in the language. During my time here I completed the TV course, Diploma in Gaelic Media. This was an exceptional course, and it is known for the opportunities it gives to students who have studied on it. With many experts from the industry teaching on the course, you get a taste of all the different media-related aspects. Stephen MacLeod
