This course is designed to facilitate a process for individuals who want to become professional counsellors and psychotherapists through education and practice. Year one of the course will provide successful students with a CPD Award in Counselling Skills (including COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills). To become a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist you will need to complete a further two years of study and practice gaining the Diploma in Higher Education in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy. Progression to year two will be by application and selection interview.

If students have not completed the required 100 hours practice there is provision for additional time to complete in semester one of the following academic year.
You will learn through a combination of face-to-face college attendance one day per week and online study via the UHI Virtual Learning Environment.
For students normally domiciled in Scotland or the European Union/EEA (outside of the UK) and with a term time address in Scotland, the following fees apply:
|Year 1: Part-time 40 credits||£430||£430|

|Year 3: Full-time 120 credits||£1285||£1285|
Eligible Scottish/EU students can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for tuition fee support for the part-time (part-time fee grant) and full-time study periods.
Qualified professional counsellors/psychotherapists can market themselves as private practitioners. There are opportunities to work for Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Providers and part-time positions within Health Centres for GPs.
