A passion for the environment and the ocean brought a major change of career for Scottish Association of Marine Science UHI student Jasmin Manning.
Jasmin left school at 16 to take up an apprenticeship in hairdressing. Her curling tongs and scissors then took her to some far flung locations including Barcelona, Australia and Dublin during a successful career.
That passion for the ocean, however, led to her changing tack when she decided to stop work and instead return to education full time, initially taking a SWAP access course before signing up for a BSc in Marine Science in Oban.
"As a mature student I have to work part time to support myself and receiving a scholarship meant I was able to work less during the summer, allowing me to pursue activities related to my degree and spend more time on voluntary environment work such as beach clean-ups.”
