Dr Steve Taylor

Dr Steve Taylor is a Researcher at the Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research (CRTR), based in the School of Adventure Studies. CRTR provides consultancy and research services in adventure tourism, nature-based tourism, quantitative visitor surveys, qualitative interviews and enthnography, tourism strategy development, marketing tourism products and services, European and national funding applications, and outdoor recreation.

Steve has a background in environmental planning, tourism and sustainable travel. He has experience of developing transport policy/strategy, writing European funding applications, managing European sustainable transport projects and inter-disciplinary project team management. Adventure recreation, mountain biking and forest tourism form the principal focus of Steve’s academic research.

Steve’s main research interests include :

  • Autonomously-controlled adventure recreation
  • Mountain biking
  • Sustainable travel/transport
  • Psychological elements of adventure sports
  • Peer pressure/social recognition of recreational participation.

His qualifications include a PhD in Tourism, an MSc (with Distinction) in Rural and Regional Resources Planning, and a BA (Hons) in Geography.
