Staff support programme for online teaching

content

FE and HE staff across the partnership have access to the following flexible support options provided by UHI Learning and Teaching. These options are being provided in response to recent consultations and will help you prepare your units and modules for the coming academic year. You may also have access to local support provided by your College.

Programme support

The EDU team will continue to work with the Subject Networks to identify programmes requiring significant changes to be ready for online delivery.

We can support you to:

  • review the design of your unit/module;
  • achieve a consistent approach across the programme as agreed with the programme leader;
  • include elements that will provide your learners with a rich and engaging experience.

In addition, module and unit leaders may self-refer for access to this service by emailing edu@uhi.ac.uk, giving details of the unit or module and an overview of the issue(s) to be resolved.

Learning content

EDU developers are available to assist in developing your course area in Brightspace and source and/or create learning resources.  This may include Forge learning objects and other digital media.

To find out more:  email edu@uhi.ac.uk.

Self-directed support

The EDU has created a resource area in Brightspace called ‘Supporting Learning Online’, available to all academic staff.  This resource will be useful to you if you only need to make moderate changes to your unit/module.  Supporting Learning Online has all the features you would expect to find in a well-designed course.  There is no requirement to work through everything, you can simply dip into the resource as often as you find helpful.

'Supporting Learning Online' is designed to be interactive and colleagues are encouraged to engage in the discussion boards to ask questions, share experiences and offer advice.

Please let us know if there is anything that has not yet been covered as development of the support offering will continue in response to your feedback.  If you would like to contribute to the resource, we will be very pleased to hear from you.

To access the new resoure area, log into Brightspace and look for ‘Supporting Learning Online’. If you find that you don't have access, you should raise a Unidesk ticket to request access.

You may also find the following existing resources helpful:

LTA Connect webinars

LTA Connect webinars introduce colleagues to current and emerging developments in educational research and pedagogic practice, and are key element of the LTA's events programme

All webinars are Thursday 1200-1300 unless otherwise stated.

LTA virtual mentoring circles

Virtual mentoring circles provide an opportunity for participants to meet with mentors in an informal space to explore, consider and reflect on aspects of online and blended delivery. Usually focusing on one aspect of online teaching and learning practice, the mentoring circle participants can explore the topic with the benefit of the mentor’s knowledge and experience. The virtual mentoring circles work best for small groups of participants – usually between 6 and 8 colleagues.
