Business and Employers

We are the only university based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Our campus is very different from most university campuses; we offer the choice of studying at one of our 13 partner colleges and research centres and over 50 local learning centres, allowing us to cover an area that exceeds that of Belgium. Given the geographical challenges of reaching such a dispersed student population, the university has become a world leader in online learning with all of our courses using virtual classroom technology.

One benefit of this technology is that it also allows students from all over the world to study at the university. This allows, multi-location employers the opportunity to have all their staff undertake the same courses wherever they are located across the globe.

The University of the Highlands and Islands is also unique in Europe as we are the only university that enables employers to access the full range of all post school education. Most universities concentrate on higher education meaning that as an employer, if you want a mix of postgraduate education for senior staff but also some skills training for those just starting out in their career, you would have to engage with a number of different educational establishments. Our network of 13 academic partners, however, covers the full range of education available in the UK today from ‘technical college’ level courses through to internationally recognised post-doctoral research work.

With us, through one point of contact we can offer you access to all levels of training and education and manage that relationship on your behalf.

Accreditation of your in-house training

If you currently run training courses within your organisation and want them be certified or accredited to nationally acceptable levels, we may be able to help you through the process. This will allow your staff to gain a qualification that will be more widely recognised than many existing in-house courses.

The university and its academic partners regularly run networking seminars, meetings and lectures. This is an ideal way to meet university staff in an informal setting and to catch up with your fellow professionals to chat about how we can all work together more productively.
