  • Digital maps are available at http://maps.nls.uk/.  Users can access and view over 48,000 maps as high-resolution, colour, zoomable images. The maps date between 1560 and 1961 and relate primarily to Scotland. The NLS also has a small selection of maps beyond Scotland, including maps of England, Ireland, Great Britain and Belgium.  This resource is open access on the NLS web pages and there is no need to register.
  • Scottish Screen Archive is part of the National Library’s collections and is available at http://ssa.nls.uk/.  Again there is no need to register for access and some film clips are available online, copies of others can be ordered within copyright restrictions.
  • COBRA – Complete Business Reference Adviser. This database provides comprehensive, practical and continually updated business information resources for anyone looking to start a business, write a marketing or business plan, or conduct research into a new market.  It is very easy to use and provides step by step guides to starting up a business in different sectors of the market e.g. hairdressing, beauty therapy.  This is one of the NLS licensed digital collections, remote access is available to anyone with a residential address in Scotland and who is a registered member of the National Library.  Students and staff can register at https://auth.nls.uk/registration/register.cfm and once they have registered online they are emailed a password and access instructions immediately.  This password gives them access to COBRA but also a good number of our other licensed resources e.g. Credo reference, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.  More information about these resources is available at https://auth.nls.uk/ldc/about.cfm.
