Using UHI libraries

Information for students, staff and researchers of other universities

UHI is a member of the  SCONUL Access, a co-operative scheme which supports the learning needs of distance learning, part-time and placement students of participating institutions in the UK.

This means you have access to UHI libraries if you have been accepted for the scheme.

On arriving you must produce your printed library access approval notification email along with your home university library or ID card.

A SCONUL access account will then be created for you by the institution and their rules will apply.

Borrowing limits for Sconul access users across the UHI are as follows:

  • Band A - staff and research students (2 item limit)
  • Band B - part time, distance learning and placement students (2 item limit)
  • Band C - full time taught postgraduates (2 item limit)
  • Band R - reference only.

There may be some restrictions on the types of materials which can be borrowed or accessed, such as books in high demand at particular UHI academic partners. You should also appreciate that our academic partner libraries may not stock books or journals relevant to your area of study.  Inter-site/inter-library loans are not included as part of Sconul access borrowing rights.

Note that licensing agreements usually restrict access to electronic databases to staff and students enrolled in UHI and its academic partners.

Should you have any queries please contact your institutional library for details.
