What is Lync ?
Lync is part of the Office suite of products, it ties in with our Office365 email solution and can be used for sending instant messages, checking on availability through presence, holding online meetings, sharing screens and files, and holding audio and video calls.
At the moment it can't be used for connecting to anyone who isn't a UHI staff or student. We are working on developing that part of the service.
The video component of Lync won't speak to any UHI VC suites so it can't be used to dial into any conferences being hosted by the UHI VC service.
If you are working on an institutional device Lync should automatically be installed, if it doesn't show in your programme list, please contact the UHI Helpdesk.
If you are a student and you want to use Lync on a personal device you can use the Lync option at the top right when using the Outlook Web App with Internet Explorer, or install it from the available from the Outlook Web App.
If you are a staff member and you want to install Lync on a personal device, you can use the Lync option available when you use the Outlook Web App with Internet Explorer, or you can purchase the Microsoft Office under the staff home use programme.
