Q: How do I get help?

If you have problems with the VLE that are not covered in the list below or via the 'How to' guides and videos please contact the UHI Servicedesk via or on 150 (internal) / 01463 279 150 (external).

Q: Blackboard Chat and Collaborate (rooms) do not work

A: Sometimes the chat room opens briefly then closes and appears on the your Task bar. It usually has a Java icon and the words 'Blackboard Chat.'

  • If it is on the Task bar just click its icon. NB: Please don't use another chat service at the same time as using Blackboard chat.
  • If chat is not on the Task bar and you have not already done so, please watch our tutorial video on getting setting up.

Q: I have studied at UHI before and I can’t login to my new module on Blackboard

A: If you are a returning student please log in to Blackboard using the same ID and Password that you used before.  If you can't remember your password please contact the UHI Servicedesk

Q: I can't remember my password

A: If you can't remember your password please contact the UHI Servicedesk

Q: Is my accessibility software compatible with Blackboard?

A: Blackboard state that they actively pursue adherence to the W3C WAI Web Content, Authoring Tool and User Agent Accessibility Guidelines. See their Accessibility Statement.

Q: I use America Online (AOL) and have problems using Blackboard

A: If you have a subscription to America Online (AOL) and use the AOL browser you may get an error message or experience problems using Blackboard.  Please use the AOL browser to log in to and connect to the Internet. Minimize the AOL browser and access Blackboard with the Firefox web browser (found to be the most efficient with this service).
