UHI - for staff and students own devices (BYOD)

register your personal laptop tablet or smartphone for use on the UHI Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) network

Follow the device-specific instructions below to register your device for Campus Wi-Fi, connect to UHI Email, access the VLE and so on.

    1. Connect to "UHI"
    2. Register using your normal Staff or Student login ID
    3. Set up Email and other services

Laptops

When you register a Windows PC or laptop ('device') for use with UHI Wi-Fi we may scan your device to confirm that it meets our requirements, particularly that you have a recognised Anti-Virus program installed and reasonably up-to-date.

If the device does not meet our requirements it will not be allowed to connect to our network.

During the scan process, we may also adjust settings on your device to protect our network and other users, including to

  • enable Automatic Updates
  • disable Internet Connection Sharing

Smartphones

Connect to "UHI", register using your normal userid/password.  That's all!

Laptops

When you register a MacBook laptop ('device') for use with UHI Wi-Fi we may scan your device to confirm that it meets our requirements, particularly that you have a recognised Anti-Virus program installed and reasonably up-to-date.

If the device does not meet our requirements it will not be allowed to connect to our network.

    Games Console

    EXPERIMENTAL: Some games consoles do not have their own web browser or cannot be used with the registration system. In this case, go to http://bcm-as.uhi.ac.uk/registration/ on any other web browser and register the Games Console against your account, using the second menu option.

    The SONY and Amazon e-book readers we tested can be registered as normal.

    There are several models of Blackberry smartphone.  

    Please send us details if you are not able to set your Blackberry successfully; please include the model code and take a screenshot of that is possible, and upload them to http://helpdesk.uhi.ac.uk .
