The aquaculture industry is facing a number of challenges in recruitment, both now and in the future. From our experience, and as highlighted in Highlands and Islands Enterprise 'Skills Review for the Aquaculture Sector in Scotland', we have identified a lack of awareness of career opportunities available within the aquaculture sector. We understand the need to help build the skills pipeline into the future.

In response to the requirement to raise awareness of aquaculture within schools and universities, we have brought together a range of individuals and organisations who can work closely with the aquaculture industry to engage with primary schools, secondary schools and undergraduates to promote aquaculture and the career opportunities it presents. These include:

  • Andrew Johnson from the Newton Rooms, specialised STEM classrooms
  • Colleen MacLean and Agnes Harvey from Developing Young Workforce
  • Representatives from the university's engineering, information and communication technology,  and leadership and management departments

To join us in developing a plan to help increase awareness of aquaculture career opportunities please register for this workshop.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided so please let us know of any dietary requirements.

Visit to find out more about aquaculture at the university.
