The Centre for History is hosting free online lunchtime lectures every three weeks throughout 2020. Everyone is welcome to join and no special software is needed to take part. Speakers will include Professor Marjory Harper, Dr Kathrin Zickermann, Dr Lucy Dean, Dr Jim MacPherson, Professor Jim Hunter and others on themes and subjects across the historical spectrum. Dr Iain MacInnes kicks off the series with a unique look at Sutherland's place in the Scottish Wars of Independence...
Sutherland and the Scottish Wars of Independence
Dr Iain MacInnes considers the place of Sutherland within the history of the Scottish Wars of Independence (1296-1357), the war's impact upon the region, and the involvement of the region and its people in the events of the Anglo-Scottish conflict. Ultimately he aims to locate this northern region more firmly within an important period of Scottish medieval history that is often only associated with southern Scotland.
