Presented by Bill Gordon of William Grant and Sons
Founded in Dufftown in 1887, independent, family-owned distiller William Grant & Sons now has a turnover of nearly £1Bn and operates globally from Scottish headquarters. In November 2011 Grants was named International Spirits Producer of the Year at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) Awards, as well as retaining its title once again as IWSC Distiller of the Year.
Grants is also a fifth-generation family business, the largest distiller in the whisky business still in family hands, and an exemplar of how a heady mix of passion, leadership, hard work and good governance can help a family business achieve sustained success.
Bill Gordon is a member of that fifth generation and helped to set up the current, more progressive family business governance system, incorporating a formal Family Council, which he chaired from inception in 1999 to 2005. He will give a family business owner's perspective on the challenges faced by enterprising families. He will also reflect on the Grant/Gordon dynasty’s own journey, and share the secrets of how Grants has grown and prospered through five generations and beyond.
Bill Gordon will present his lecture at the University of the Highlands and Islands Executive Office from 5.15pm – 7pm on June 14th. As always these events are free and open to anyone.
