It started out nearly twenty years ago as the University of the Highlands and Islands Project. In 2001 it was renamed, enigmatically, UHI Millennium Institute and in February 2011 it became, simply, the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). But it isn't simple.
UHI is a complex organisation of thirteen independent partners, for each of whom its involvement with the university is only a part of its operations. Knitting together the parts into the whole, both internally and externally, is a significant challenge and still, to some extent, a work in progress.
Martin J Wright, Director of Marketing, Communications and Planning, joined UHI in 2001 shortly after it became the Millennium Institute. He will describe the challenges and the approaches taken to overcome them but also paint a picture of the very significant opportunities for our 20 year old 'new' university.
