University Christmas lecture celebrates Highland business success

The second University of the Highlands and Islands Christmas lecture will be celebrating local business entrepreneurship and success with the leader of the largest private employer in the Highlands.

Roy MacGregor OBE, of the Global Energy Group and the chairman of Ross County Football Club, will present his lecture in Eden Court’s One Touch Theatre on Thursday 6 December from 7.15-9pm.

The Global Energy Group was founded in 2005 and has offices in Aberdeen and Inverness.  It has a turnover in excess of £350 million and has been decorated with three Sunday Times Fast Track Awards and a SCDI Award for Best International Business.

“We are delighted to be hosting our second Christmas Lecture,” said Principal and Vice-Chancellor, James Fraser. “This is our annual celebration of personal and business success in the Highlands and islands. We are very pleased to welcome Roy MacGregor OBE, a chief executive who has demonstrated that a leading and internationally significant company can be forged within and run from the Highlands and Islands.  We want our young people to be inspired to do similar things for Scotland and this region”

“I am delighted and honoured to be invited to speak at this year’s UHI Christmas Lecture” said Global Energy Group chairman, Roy MacGregor OBE.  “I hope that by sharing my experiences in business I can in some way inspire young people to believe in themselves and their ability, along with the support of the University of the Highlands and Islands we must nurture a new generation of young entrepreneurs.”

The Christmas lecture will be introduced by local business leader, David Sutherland, chairman of Ness Castle Lodges, which will be sponsoring the event with Tulloch Homes.  Local writer and MFR broadcaster, Nicky Marr, will be interviewing Mr MacGregor and leading the post interview questions and answers.

The second University of the Highlands and Islands Christmas lecture will also feature music performed by students currently undertaking the university’s BA applied music degree course.  The event, which will be broadcast live via global web cast by www.invernesstv.net, will be followed by a drinks and Christmas canapés reception overlooking the Christmas lights on the river Ness.
