Janni Diez has been named as the first ever recipient of the university’s Highland Society of London Award. The award is given to the undergraduate student judged to have the best Highlands and Islands related dissertation in humanities and Gaelic.

Janni, a Gaelic development officer at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI, graduated from our Gaelic and development BA (Hons) in October. Her dissertation looked at the barriers young students who are fluent in Gaelic face in using Gaelic with other Gaelic speaking students.

As the winner of the award, Janni has received £1000; a prize donated by The Highland Society of London. The society was founded in 1778 and supports the traditions and culture of the Highlands of Scotland.
