Paul Tett

Paul Tett is part-time Reader in Coastal Systems, and leader of the Laurence Mee Centre for Society and the Sea, at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, near Oban.

After a PhD (Glasgow, 1969) study of marine bioluminescence at the Millport Marine Station, he researched (and taught) phytoplankton at SAMS' precursor, SMBA, the University of Wales Bangor, and Napier University Edinburgh. Excess phytoplankton growth can give rise to the problem of eutrophication, and investigating this problem gave him an interest in policy and institutional systems that he has continued to pursue at SAMS since 2010.
