Profile
I am a Research Fellow with a background in nutrition and exercise metabolism. I am interested in the relationship between diet and physical activity in weight management and disease prevention. I also have an interest in appetite control and gut-brain interactions.

Kirsty Hickson RD

Profile
As well as being the team’s technician I am a registered dietitian. I’ve worked for many years in research, the food industry and medical device industry as well as clinical dietetics. I’m particularly interested in the roles of nutrition and activity in the prevention and rehabilitation of disease and am fortunate that my dual role in the team allows me to be involved in both aspects.

I am a post-doctoral researcher with a background in applied sport and exercise science and environmental psychology. I am interested in the use of digital technology to improve aspects of health, wellbeing and performance. I also have an interest in various strategies to improve levels of physical activity and mental health.

Jed McKernie

Profile
I am a postgraduate researcher studying on the Exercise Physiology, Training and Nutrition MRes programme. My project is entitled “The science of shinty: a needs analysis and training considerations” and aims to develop an athlete profile. I have a background in the physical preparation of athletes in a range of sports including football and downhill mountain biking.

- The use of technology in testing and monitoring athletes.
- Physical preparation of athletes.
