Research Fellows (Rural Health and Wellbeing)

To support our work we are recruiting to the following role within the university’s Executive Office, located in Inverness.
£35,009 to £40,690 per annum
Funding secured until March 2021
Applications are invited for two research fellows to join the expanding Rural Health and Wellbeing team of researchers to be responsible for leading and managing a portfolio of research relating to projects within the department theme areas and developing the local, national and international profile of the University of the Highlands and Islands Rural Health and Wellbeing. There will also be opportunities for the successful candidates to engage with other partners within the rural health network including the university’s academic partner colleges, clinical partners and those from other higher education institutions. The posts are funded by the local development agency, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, as part of a multi-million pound investment that will fund a substantial expansion of the existing Health Research team to develop a fully-fledged School of Health at the university. The remit of the new School will be to deliver top class teaching, research and innovation across the Highlands and Islands region.
Rural Health and Wellbeing
The Rural Health and Wellbeing team is a core element of the Division of Health Research located in the Inverness Campus. The new campus brings together Inverness College UHI, the university’s genetics team, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and new and existing companies with an interest in health and life sciences. The unit’s research overarching themes of service design and delivery as well as promotion of health and wellbeing include projects in: Older people’s services; digital health: technology in health and social care; community engagement and co-production; diabetes services; health behaviour change; physical activity promotion.
The Rural Health team has an excellent track record in attracting external project funding from a variety of sources at national and international level and delivering award winning projects.
- PhD with an excellent academic track record and at least one first authored publication submitted to a high impact journal.
- Experience in rural health and wellbeing or rurality –linked research
- Strong background and successful grant applications in qualitative research, community engagement or participatory action research to EU, research councils and charities
- Experience of PhD supervision
- Ability to work as part of a team, but able to plan and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills
These are full time posts and will involve working 35 hours per week.
