This is a very exciting time in Optometry with the great expansion of roles and opportunities being developed to deliver eye care across the UK. An opportunity has now arisen to become part of the team delivering the BSc (Hons) Optometry degree at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Our degree programme is 4 years with the main curriculum being taught through problem based learning together with clinical skills training and periods of community and hospital placement

We are looking for an experienced optometrist who is enthusiastic about optometry education and has an interest and experience in teaching, to join us.

Based in Inverness, the post – holder will be involved in delivering tutorials and lectures, demonstrating clinical techniques, supervising and supporting students within undergraduate student practice clinics. The post will also involve mentoring and supporting students as a personal  academic tutor as well as supporting the management of the student placement programme. The assessment of student performance will also be a key part of this role along with other members of the staff as will the ongoing development of curriculum to enhance the student experience and identify new learning opportunities.

The University will help support the successful candidate’s career ambitions through a staff development programme that could include a post-graduate teaching, clinical or academic qualification, and engagement with research and innovation opportunities over the longer term.
