Discover a different world
There is nowhere on earth quite like the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. One of the most stunning areas of natural beauty on the planet, our historic communities, striking peaks, wild valleys and deep lochs are rich in cultural heritage.
We are also home to much of what is best in today’s world - from excellent schools and first-class healthcare, to a well-developed transport infrastructure, and superbly-situated, high-quality homes. With investment in digital connectivity through a state-of-the-art telecoms network, and in green energy from hydro-electric dams, we are embracing tomorrow.
Whether you love kayaking or woodland walking, fine dining or live performance, you will discover a wealth of opportunity among our urban centres and rural communities alike.
The University of the Highlands and Islands is equally distinctive. We are the UK’s leading integrated university; a partnership of 13 independent colleges and research institutions offering both further and higher education. Our innovative approach to learning, and our distinctive research and curriculum, underpin thriving businesses and economic prosperity. We are locally based and rooted in communities, yet with national and international reach.
Here, you will discover space to spread your wings and live life to the full.
With the benefit of multi-million pound investment over the past decade, there has never been a better moment to join our Department of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Science. In a post funded by the development agency, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, you will develop and manage a portfolio of research relating to physical activity projects within the department. We will look to you to engage with colleges, clinical partners, social scientists and others in our broad research network. Your goal: to enhance the university’s local, national and international profile in the field of disease prevention and management. Along the way, you will benefit from leading edge facilities and substantial, ongoing investment to grow our team and develop a fully-fledged School of Health.
With proven experience in physical activity research linked to the management or prevention of chronic disease, you have a PhD and an excellent academic track record. You have published at least one first authored publication to a high impact journal. A team player, you are equally confident working independently. Crucially, you are an excellent communicator with experience of PhD supervision.
The closing date is Monday 7 November 2016.
Interviews will be held in Inverness at a later date.
