This is a very exciting time in Optometry with the great expansion of opportunities being developed to deliver eye care across the UK and here at UHI our new BSc (Hons) Optometry degree programme is due to welcome the first cohort of students in September 2020. This innovative new programme has the main curriculum being taught through a blended learning approach combining problem-based learning together with clinical skills training and periods of community and hospital placement.

We are seeking an experienced Optometrist who is enthusiastic about optometry education and has both a major interest and experience in teaching and assessment, to come and join us to help support the delivery of our programme and also contribute to the ongoing curriculum development and delivery of undergraduate optometry education.

It is essential that you either currently hold, or are eligible for, professional registration as an optometrist with the General Optical Council and hold a postgraduate academic qualification (e.g. MSc/ MRes/ MPhil). An additional qualification at PhD or professional doctorate level would be welcomed. A teaching qualification would be an additional advantage but relevant clinical experience either in a community or hospital setting is essential. Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an enthusiastic, flexible, organised and collaborative approach to their work, along with excellent communication and presenting skills.
