Education and childcare
Education and Childcare graduates can be found in a wide range of professions.
The national annual report 'what do graduates do?' gives some information on the career paths of graduates generally .
Graduates from Education and Childcare may often be interested in careers working with children, for example, primary school teacher or social worker. However there are lots of other possibilities as about 60% of graduate jobs are open to graduates from any discipline, so graduates can also be found in other contexts such as business and social care. There is a database of graduate jobs on the prospects website where you can look up different kinds of jobs and find out about entry requirements, pay scales, training and where to find work.
Also on the prospects site is a range of information sheets for different subject areas outlining potential career options related to those subject areas. The following information sheets may be particularly interesting to graduates from education and childcare:
The Sector Skills councils provide information relevant to particular career areas, and the Skills for Care and Development Sector Skills website provides information about careers in social work, social care and childrens' services.
In addition, in Scotland, the following websites are very useful:
- Scottish Social Services Council - gives details of careers in social services, and details of Social Work training courses.
- Teach in Scotland - gives details of how to train to be a teacher in a primary or secondary school in Scotland.
