Currently in 2nd year studying BA Child and Youth Studies online through Inverness College UHI.
I did this placement during my HNC as it was part of my course. I found this placement when researching which schools I could go to in the area. This school had a very nice atmosphere, and was extremely welcoming.
The placement was relevant to my studies as it allowed me to have an insight into working with children and other practitioners so I could decide on what I wanted to do in the future. It was relevant as it allowed me to work alongside some very inspirational teachers which enabled me to gain experience in working with children and adults.
My main responsibilities included time keeping, organisation as all of my placement work relevant to my college course had to be ready and submitted on time and communicating with members of staff and children within the setting.
Something I found valuable was gaining experience and ideas of how to introduce movement into the sessions.
Impact on future careers aims
It allowed me to develop my organisation, time keeping and communication skills, which will help in meeting my future career aims as these are essential when working in an educational setting.
Yes, I would recommend students to do a placement, as it gives you an insight into an educational setting. It allows you to gain experience in how educational settings are run, and also allows you to develop your team working skills.
