What is the Skills and Employability Award?

The Skills and Employability Award enhances your career prospects by recognising and rewarding students who gain additional skills through participation in extra-curricular activities.  The award provides evidence that you have undertaken and successfully completed a range of tasks focussed on increasing your employability skills, and is a great addition to your portfolio.

Who can participate in the award?

The award is being piloted at Inverness College UHI, SAMS UHI and West Highland College UHI only.  Students enrolled at these locations are eligible to register and work towards achieving the Skills and Employability Award, no matter what level you are studying; from NC to Postgraduate.

Please note At SAMS UHI the award will only be open to H2 and H3 and at West Highland College UHI to Higher Education students.

What you have to do to get the award?

There are set tasks which require completion in order to successfully complete the award.  The below diagram outlines the different elements which make up the award.





Please note the award will be assessed in line with the level of study you are undertaking.

What will I gain from participating in the award?

You will gain a whole host of skills required for your future career; whether you are looking for a job, a postgraduate degree, a research position, or you want to start a business.  Skills such as:


  • Confidence building

  • Working as part of a team
  • Reflect on your skills

  • Having the ability to plan and achieve targets/goals
  • Being able to articulate your strengths and weaknesses
