Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) Survey

About the survey

The survey we are asking you to take part in is a national survey of everyone who has recently qualified from any university or HE college in the UK. The information you provide will also be very useful for us when advising our current students about the opportunities that might be available to them.

Of those who obtained qualifications across the UK in 2015/16, 78% responded to the survey. More results can be found at

If we don’t hear from you we will try to contact you again, possibly by phone, so please let us know if you change your email address or phone number. We use an external agency to undertake the phone calls. At the start of the call, they will clearly identify themselves, their association with the university and the purpose of the survey. Your personal details and responses will be held on a secure online survey tool provided by HESA, which is fully compliant with all UK data protection laws. The external agency will have no access to this information or retain any details from the survey once the calls are complete.  If you have caller ID, the calls may either be displayed as coming from an ‘unknown’ or ‘blocked’ number or they may show a mobile phone number. We understand that many people are reluctant to answer calls from such numbers, but currently this is unavoidable. If you do not answer, the agency will leave a message saying the call is on behalf of the University of the Highlands and Islands and will try again later or leave a number for you to call.

If we can’t get in touch with you at all, we may try to get information about what you were doing from someone else, either at the university or someone we can reach using the contact information you have previously provided. If you don’t want us to do this, or you don’t want to give us any information at all, please tell us. Below are details about what happens to your information after it is sent to us.

What happens to your information?

Data from this survey will be entered onto our student records system for internal statistical analysis and management purposes. This data may be linked to other information about you held by the University. Information we collect from the DLHE survey will be added to your Alumni record. All data will be stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

We will send information from this survey to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). The uses that HESA makes of your survey responses are described in detail at
