Heather Harper and Heather Major.

Heather Major was nominated by her lecturer and dissertation supervisor Dr Jamie Grant. He said: “Heather has progressed to become an outstanding student in the last couple of years. This is well evidenced by her first class honours degree and her high average mark. As well as her academic ability, she is a very positive influence amongst her peers and has helped not only other theology students, but also students in different disciplines. Heather has been a pleasure to teach and has engaged fully with the life of the college and her peer group.”

Speaking about her award, Miss Major said: “My time at Highland Theological College UHI has helped me develop as a student and as a person. This award and my results would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of the staff and students. It has been a privilege to spend time with them over the past four years.”

Heather Harper, who completed her BA (Hons) Theological Studies degree as a distance learning student, was nominated for her award by Heather Major. Miss Major explained the reason for nominating her fellow student: “Heather and I have been in classes together since we started our degree. During that time I have witnessed Heather’s dedication to her studies as she has not only grown in her research and writing skills, but also in her faith and her knowledge of the Bible. As a distance learning student and single mum, she has faced various challenges throughout her degree. Despite this, Heather has stuck with her studies and has achieved more than she ever dreamed possible.”

Speaking about her award, Ms Harper said: “Being able to study at Highland Theological College UHI has been an amazing experience. The fact I could study by video conferencing meant I could fully participate in my studies and also be at home for my two children. When I started the degree I never imagined I would achieve this result. The help and support I received from my tutors, the staff and fellow students was invaluable and I cannot thank them enough. I look forward to continuing my studies with Highland Theological College UHI in the near future.”
