The Witherby Publishing Group Charitable Trust Scholarship is to support one student for the duration of their course (up to 4 years) with an award of £3,000 per year.

The Witherby Publishing Group Charitable Trust project at UHI helps students from rural and island communities by supporting talented individuals who would otherwise struggle to access learning opportunities. As part of this project, the Witherby Publishing Group Charitable Trust Scholarship will be awarded to one new student each year, studying any HE course at any of UHI’s partner colleges. The scholarship holder will be awarded £3,000 per year throughout their time at UHI (up to 4 years / £12,000).

Eligibility

  • Students with an offer to study any HE course at UHI are eligible to apply
  • The award will be given subject to selected student meeting the conditions for entrance onto their chosen course and accepting their offer of a place at UHI
  • Support will be provided for up to 4 years – students will be required to continue to meet academic requirements and provide an annual report of their progress. 
  • Selection will be based on potential, financial need and geographic location
  • Scholarship holders will have academic potential but need a helping hand to reach their goals. They may not have come to HE through a traditional route.
  • Scholarship holders will be from rural and island communities in the Highlands and Islands

How to apply

Applications will be accepted until 31 May 2024. Applicants are asked to provide a record of their academic achievement and complete a statement of support which is split into 3 sections:

  • Personal statement
  • Academic potential
  • Financial situation

Each applicant must provide a personal reference.
