Wellbore Surveying Competency Programme
UHI Wellbore Surveying Competency Programme
We have developed this competency programme in wellbore positioning in partnership with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Technical Section for Wellbore Positioning (also known as the ISCWSA).
This is the first industry recognised programme on the subject and has been developed in response to an industry-wide need to promote good practice in this safety critical activity. It is aimed at oil professionals who collect, manage or use wellbore survey data and require to have a good understanding of the methods, the equipment and their applications and limitations.
It also provides contractors with a standard, recognised credential in wellbore surveying to demonstrate to clients that their personnel have an adequate competency in the subject.
The programme is facilitated by Professor Angus Jamieson and includes contributions from industry experts. Angus is a consultant in directional drilling and the primary author of the University of the Highlands and Islands/SPE book 'Introduction to Wellbore Positioning' which all students will be expected to read.
"Good Morning Angus,
[Also] wanted to thank you for the opportunity; I really enjoyed this class for different reasons. On one hand your rank in this discipline reminded me of learning drilling practices from Bill Murchison and casing design from Charlie Prentice. On the other hand the material feels like something poorly understood / underutilized just before it goes viral.
Thanks and Regards,
Engineering Advisor, Drilling – DJ Basin / New Ventures Noble Energy"
It is recognised that in some instances, it may be appropriate to send multiple students on this programme. Special fee arrangements will also be available for companies who can provide the personal tutoring support internally. If you would like to discuss these options or if you have another query please complete the form below and we will get back to you. Otherwise, you can apply for the programme here.
