Taking Learning Outdoors
‘I’m a Lecturer! Get me OUT of here!’

Outdoor learning is now a central theme of education in Scotland. Taking learning outdoors and creating relationships with the natural environment could become key in tackling both mental health and the environmental crisis. This workshop explored the why, the how, and the when of taking learning out of the classroom and into the outdoors.
Alastair Davidson is a lecturer in Childhood Practice at UHI Inverness. He has over 15 years’ experience of taking learning and play outdoors having worked as an outdoor nursery manager, outdoor instructor as well as roles in conservation and education for sustainable development.
Food Waste Workshop

Delivered by Isabel McLeish, this Love Food Hate Waste Workshop raised awareness of the issues caused by food waste and the actions we can take to reduce food waste at home - saving you time and money.
Isabel is the Project Officer from the social enterprise Velocity Café and Bicycle Workshop based in Inverness since 2012. Velocity is one of the eight founding partners of the Highland Community Waste Partnership which aims to reduce waste and build a movement for more sustainable consumption across the Highlands.

Delivered by Miriam Adcock from Zero Waste Scotland, providing top tips and advice on how to reduce your waste over the festive period, helping both the planet and your pocket.
The session looked at what we buy, the alternatives available, and what we can do to reduce our waste before and after Christmas Day. Covering everything from gifts, cards and wrapping paper, decorations and trees, to food.
