BSc Zoology - University of Edinburgh
MSc Marine Biology - Bangor University
PhD Environmental Science - Environment Research Institute UHI
Chris focuses on the growth of marine organisms on offshore structures and the ecological and technical implications that marine growth (also known as ‘biofouling’) can have. He is particularly interested in the human-mediated spread of marine non-native species as a result biofouling on marine structures and the ways in which we can reduce this impact through adequate biosecurity measures. Being in Thurso presents great opportunities for fieldwork as it is next door to the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Marine Energy Park where wave and tidal energy devices are being tested and commercially active energy farms are being developed.
Prior to his research in biofouling and non-native species he gained experience working on projects in fisheries science and terrestrial conservation.
