Welcome to the Research and Innovation Hub of UHI
Research lies at the heart of what it means to be a University. The University of the Highlands and Islands is no different from any other in recognising this. However, the University of the Highlands and Islands is like no other. We are a partnership of Colleges and Research Centres and our research reflects the wonderful natural and social laboratory in which we live and work. The University has established a record of significant research quality. For example: in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 40% of the staff submitted in Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences were rated world leading or internationally excellent. Archaeology and Celtic studies also made a significant impact with world leading rankings. This was achieved before UHI became recognised as a University!
Our priority areas relate to the nature of our research environment. The partnership offers unparalleled natural laboratories which include opportunities to support research in a wide range of disciples: physical; ecological; cultural; historical and social. These form the basis for research into areas of key strength, including: rural landscape and sociology; marine science and technology; environmental science; culture, language and history. The University of the Highlands and Islands will continue to develop these advantages given to us by nature and history.
The webpages within this section reflect this desire to help foster collaboration, support and innovative world-class research. Business and academia can find working partners through the researcher, college and research centre profiles and where possible we try to include a contact email within each page. If you are unsure of who to contact please use the Research Office page as an initial contact point and we will do our best to put you in touch with the right person.
