Entry requirements

  • 3 Scottish Highers at grades BBC or above (Maths at B, Science/Physics at B, plus English/Modern Studies at C) OR
  • 3 A levels at grade D or above in Maths, Science/Physics, plus English/Modern Studies
  • Alternatively, National Certificate in Engineering Level 6 or a related discipline, or equivalent
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications and/or experience will be considered on an individual basis
  • Suitability for entry onto this course will be decided by your employer and the university

You must also be:

  • at least 16 years of age
  • in employment for a minimum of 21 hours per week and have approval of your employer prior to application
  • resident in Scotland at the start of the Graduate Apprenticeship and your employer’s working premises must also be located in Scotland

Advanced entry to year 2 may be available with:

  • SQA HNC Engineering Systems or other relevant qualification
  • Year 1 of BEng (Hons) Engineering Systems (Graduate Apprenticeship)
  • Modern Apprenticeship Diploma in Engineering Level 7 

Advanced entry to year 3 may be available with:

  • SQA HND Engineering Systems or equivalent qualification
  • Year 2 of BEng (Hons) Engineering Systems (Graduate Apprenticeship)

How will I study my course?

  • Full-time
  • This is a work-based degree. You will learn through a combination of video-conference lectures and tutorials, and online study via the university's virtual learning environment (VLE), with support from your tutors. The VLE will provide core theory and activities for you to refer to at all times
  • Workplace learning will occur during normal work activities. To support learning in the workplace, you will be allocated time to reflect on work activities supported by the VLE, your tutors and a workplace mentor

How long will my course last?

  • Full-time: 4 years @ approximately 25 hours per week (work based, VLE and self-study)

Number of hours per week indicates the total number of hours you should dedicate to the course, which includes time spent in lectures and your own time spent on individual study and research.
